Body camera footage shows DUI arrest of Miami Gardens police sergeant

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Body camera video showing the arrest of a former Miami Gardens Police Sergeant has been released.

It came from the department she once worked for.

According to authorities, 38-year-old Andrea Smith was pulled over for running several red lights just before 2 a.m. on Thursday, March 14 in the area of Northwest 2nd Avenue and 202nd Terrace.

She was arrested on DUI and reckless driving charges.

Police said Smith had bloodshot eyes, was slurring her words and smelled of alcohol.

Smith denied a field sobriety test and was taken into custody, police said.

She has since been relieved of duty.
