Miami adds to transfer class, lands edge rusher Tyler Baron
Miami received a commitment on Tuesday from Tyler Baron, the top available player in The Athletic’s transfer portal rankings.
Baron, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior edge rusher from Knoxville, Tenn., produced 27 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks in four seasons at Tennessee before transferring to Louisville in the spring. He re-entered the transfer portal and visited both Miami and Ole Miss during the spring window.
Baron ranked fifth in the SEC among edge rushers in 2023 with 41 pressures and a pressure rate of 17 percent, per Pro Football Focus. He finished his junior season in Knoxville with 10.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and two pass breakups while starting 11 games. He started 19 games in his time with the Volunteers.
Baron’s addition gives Miami a formidable pass rush that includes Rueben Bain, the ACC’s Defensive Freshman of the Year last season, and veterans Akheem Mesidor, Marshall transfer Elijah Alston, NC State transfer C.J. Clark and Middle Tennessee transfer Marley Cook.
