Road closures begin at intersection of I-95, I-395 and Dolphin Expressway
MIAMI – If you’ve been in downtown Miami recently, you’ve seen the big arches of the new signature bridge are starting to come together.
It’s all part of the project that Florida Department Of Transportation says will bring major improvements to mobility, but first we’re all going to have to endure some road closures so crews can do that work.
The overnight road closures are expected to lead to traffic congestion as motorists detour through Little Havana.
“We’re going to have to shut down State Road 836 at 17th Avenue,” said Oscar Gonzalez with FDOT.
Those eastbound lanes of the Dolphin Expressway will be closed up until I-95, starting at 11 p.m. on Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday.
They will then close every night through May 24, opening back up at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays.
“It involves three of the busiest corridors in Miami-Dade County,” said Gonzalez.
State Road 836, I-95 and I-395 – all converge at an interchange that sees more than 450 – thousand vehicle trips every single day.
This project is a major improvement that we’re making for our community, our drivers, our residents,” said Gonzalez.
The closures are needed to install new bridge supports on State Road 836.
It’s part of the signature bridge project which includes a brand new I-395 and a whole second level to the Dolphin Expressway.
“People can actually sign up for these lane closure alerts, that way they will receive them in their inbox and they can plan accordingly before they head out on the trip,” said Gonzalez.
Many more road closures are expected over the next three months as part of the project.
