Miami-Dade Public Schools host annual prom for students with autism spectrum disorder

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade County Public Schools hosted its annual prom for students with autism spectrum disorder, offering a vibrant and inclusive event.

Approximately 250 high school students attended the prom, which was held at the DoubleTree Convention Center in Miami on Friday.

During the event, one student shared his joy and excitement saying, “My mom picked it,” when asked about her sparkly outfit choice.

Additionally, another attendee also shared his love for his tuxedo, stating, “It looks pretty good on me.”

An educator emphasized the importance of providing students with autism the same prom experience as their peers, stating, “This event is the same as any other prom because we want to make our students with autism have the same exact experience.”

The prom also featured Sophia, who was celebrated for her fabulous dress and radiant personality.

As a previous prom queen, Sophia said, “Yeah, it’s my one-year anniversary this year.”
