Previous Match
Inter Miami earned a resounding 1-4 win on the road over the New England Revolution last Saturday. A record-setting performance from captain Lionel Messi led the team to victory. He made MLS history with his brace and assist, breaking the previous record for the most goal contributions in a player’s first seven games to start a season, and becoming the first player to register multiple goal contributions in five straight matches. Goals by second-half-substitutes Benjamin Cremaschi and Luis Suárez capped the team’s impressive victory on the night.
The evening also saw Inter Miami play in front of a record home-crowd for the opposition for the second time this season after the record-setting attendance against the Sporting Kansas City on April 13, with 65,612 fans in the stands at Gillette Stadium to set a new record in attendance in a New England Revolution home game.
Additionally, Messi was voted Player of the Matchday for Matchday 11 of the 2024 MLS season. Messi’s brace and assist against New England saw him make MLS history. He became the first player in MLS history to record multiple goal contributions in five consecutive games. The Argentine maestro has also recorded 16 goal contributions (nine goals, seven assists) in his first seven games of the 2024 season, the most by a player in MLS history in his first seven games of a season and three more than the previous record holders Thierry Henry (13 in 2012) and Carlos Vela (13 in 2019).

MLS Player of the Month Honors for Messi
Messi was also voted Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Month for April 2024. In just four MLS appearances and 315 minutes on the pitch this past month, the Argentine maestro led the MLS with 10 goal contributions, coming from six goals and four assists – registering at least one goal and one assist in each match – averaging a goal contribution every 31.5 minutes of action. Messi led an Inter Miami squad that finished the month with a 3-0-1 record and sits atop the Supporters’ Shield standings. He played a pivotal role in the team’s 12 goals scored in April, directly contributing to 10 of them.
Messi becomes the second Inter Miami star to win MLS Player of the Month honors this season. Inter Miami teammate Luis Suárez was the first player in Club history to be named MLS Player of the Month after winning for February and March.
