Messi Blocks FC Barcelona Star From Joining Inter Miami
Lionel Messi has voiced opposition to a current FC Barcelona star potentially joining him at Inter Miami according to El Nacional, which cited anonymous sources.
Messi could have possibly signed for Barca last summer while on the brink of free agency at Paris Saint-Germain.
Refusing to wait around for the cash-strapped Catalans to get their financial house in order, however, the Argentine headed across the Atlantic to the MLS where he has thus far been a roaring success.
With both Barca legends announcing their departures as a 2022/2023 season that the Blaugrana finished as La Liga rulers for the first time in four years drew to a close, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba soon reunited with Messi in Fort Lauderdale.
Luis Suarez followed in December after leaving Gremio in Brazil, and the David Beckham co-owned franchise now currently boasts at least four members of Barca’s last Champions League winning outfit that scooped the treble under Luis Enrique in 20215.
The final component of the famed ‘MSN’ trident in Neymar has been linked with a move to America one day and hasn’t ruled the switch out.
“I’d love to play in the U.S., actually. I’d love to play there at least for a season,” the Brazilian said in 2022, though UOL recently reported that he told Santos players he will join his boyhood outfit when his Al-Hilal contract expires in 2025.
David Beckham joked about Neymar signing for his team when welcoming him to Miami in March.
But according to El Nacional, the ex-Manchester United midfielder has also expressed interest in acquiring Robert Lewandowski which was essentially blocked by Messi.
The pair don’t have the best relationship thanks to a fall-out triggered by a misunderstanding over The Best awards and Ballon d’Or, with Messi confirming he went out of his way to humiliate the Pole at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Additionally, however, Messi reportedly wants to protect his best friend in Suarez, whose status as Miami’s starting number 9 would be under threat if Lewandowski rocked up at the Chase Stadium.
With Inter Miami currently leading the Eastern Conference, the Herons are doing just fine without La Liga’s top scorer last term as well.
