Chicago Cubs vs. Miami Marlins preview, Sunday 4/21, 1:20 CT
Sunday notes…
- SUNDAY, FUN DAY: The Cubs are 3-0 on Sundays so far this season, having won at Texas, at home against the Dodgers and at Seattle. Last year, they did not win their third game on Sunday until July 9, by which time they had lost 12. They won their fourth 2 weeks later, making them 4-13. They were 5-15 through Aug. 13, then won 4 in a row and 6 of 8 to finish 10-17. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)
- RECENTLY AGAINST MIAMI: The Cubs are 20-15 against Miami since 2018, including 13-6 at Wrigley Field.
- THE BUSCH LEAGUE: Michael Busch, last 14 games since April 3: .373/.431/.784 (19-for-51) with three doubles, six home runs, six walks and 10 runs scored.
- CODY! CODY! CODY!: Cody Bellinger is on a six-game hitting streak in which he is batting .333/.385/.667 (8-for-24) with a triple, two home runs and four runs scored.
- THE LEIT SHOW: Mark Leiter Jr. has not allowed an earned run in 10 appearances in 2024, totaling 10⅔ innings pitched. He is the only major league pitcher (mininum nine games) to have not allowed an earned run this season.
Here are today’s particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Marlins lineup:
Kyle Hendricks, RHP vs. Edward Cabrera, RHP
There’s not much I can say about Kyle Hendricks except I hope he’s figured out what’s been wrong so far this year and that he turns in a good outing against the Marlins.
Interesting, though not too relevant: Kyle has not faced the Marlins since 2019.
So, as always, we await developments.
Edward Cabrera had a late start to his 2024 season because of some shoulder issues, but he threw well in his only start so far, last Monday against the Giants, allowing one run and striking out 10 in six innings.
He was tough on the Cubs last year, April 29 in Miami, striking out 12 in five innings. Those two games are his only career outings with double-digit K’s.
Good luck today, Cubs hitters.
Hendricks’ pitch chart is from this year; Cabrera’s, from 2023.
