Daniil Medvedev vs. Marton Fucsovics pick: Miami Open prediction, odds

Daniil Medvedev hasn’t won a title yet in 2024, but the affable Russian seems well on his way to another big year.

Medvedev made a run to the finals in the Australian Open before losing in a five-set classic to Jannik Sinner, he went to the semifinals in Dubai and then lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals at Indian Wells last weekend.

Medvedev already has five wins over top-20 players in three tournaments.

The 27-year-old now heads to Miami as the defending champion.

Everything seems to be pointing in the right direction for Medvedev, but there are some signals that point to Friday’s tilt with Marton Fucsovics being a little tougher than the odds suggest.

First of all, Fucsovics is never an easy out.

The Hungarian is as fit as any player on the ATP Tour and has no issues going into the deep end of the pool with any opponent.

Another encouraging sign for this being a closer match than expected is that Medvedev has, at times, struggled to impose his will on inferior opponents.

He was taken to five sets by Emil Ruusuvuori and was in a bit of trouble against Nuno Borges and Terence Atmane at the Australian Open.

Fucsovics does his best work on hard courts and already has a win on the courts in Miami, while Medvedev will need to quickly adjust from Indian Wells to Miami after a long flight.

Those intangibles likely won’t be enough for Fucsovics to pull the upset, but he can nab a set on Friday.

The play: Over 2.5 sets (+195, DraftKings).
