Man arrested for fatal shooting outside Miami nightclub while he was out on felony bond

MIAMI – A 44-year-old man shot a 61-year-old man in the head outside of the Studio 60 nightclub in Allapattah, according to the Miami Police Department.

The hip-hop nightclub at the corner of Northwest 36 Street and 23 Avenue was closed for renovations when Wilfredo Artiles worked there from 8 p.m., Jan. 24, until after midnight, according to police.

Nathaniel Martin shot Artiles several times before police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 12:24 a.m., Jan. 25, and found Artiles slumped over the wheel of his white 2023 Hyundai Palisade, according to a police report released on Saturday.

Martin took off running and Miami Fire Rescue personnel rushed Artiles to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where a doctor pronounced him dead, according to a police report.

A detective reported finding surveillance video of Martin, of Miami Gardens, searching the 2023 Hyundai Palisade, stealing Artiles’s iPhone and car keys after the shooting, and wiping away his fingerprints.

Martin didn’t wipe well; crime scene investigators recovered his fingerprint on the outside of Hyundai Palisade’s driver-side door, according to the police arrest report.

Detectives also noticed Martin was left-handed when he fired, and there were photos of him on Facebook wearing the same outfit, according to police.

Martin has been in the custody of the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitations since Feb. 25. He was at the Metro West Detention Center on Saturday, inmate records show.

Martin is facing charges in three cases, including one warrant case he was out on felony bond for. A judge denied him bond.

For Artiles’s murder on Jan. 25, he is facing charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed burglary, and use of a firearm while committing a felony.

The case that prompted his arrest on Feb. 25 was for first-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, written threats, and criminal mischief.

The warrant case was for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, and trespass property after warning.
