Inter Miami kicked off the 2024 MLS season with a triumphant win, beating Real Salt Lake 2-0 in front of a sold-out crowd.

The Herons enter the season as favorites in the soccer odds to win this year’s MLS Cup, with last year’s two finalists, Columbus and LAFC right behind them with odds of +781 and +825, respectively.

I hope you will join me every week as I break down the full MLS Cup odds as the season progresses.

Favorites to win the MLS Cup

Inter Miami (+273)

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a team positioned outside of the playoffs, so late in the season, tabbed as favorites to win the championship.

That’s the position Inter Miami found themselves in last year once Lionel Messi made his debut, and if not for a few nagging injuries that kept him sidelined, Inter Miami could have very well made the postseason and done damage.

So what have the sportsbooks done now that we are likely (and hopefully) getting a healthy Messi for the entire MLS season? They’ve covered their asses and have made Inter Miami the odds-on favorites to win next year’s MLS Cup.

From a team perspective, they are likely to return all key contributors from last year’s late-season push, in addition to adding Luis Suarez — Messi’s close friend and former teammate in Barcelona.

Los Angeles FC (+775)

Given the fact that Los Angeles FC has made two straight MLS Cup finals (winning once), it makes sense to expect them to compete for a title next season as well.

Barring any major turnover — I’ve read minimal if any — LAFC should be the cream of the crop in the Western Conference.

They’ll likely have to fend off Seattle once more, but I wouldn’t go to the window looking to fade LAFC next season.

What is the format for the MLS Cup Playoffs?

The Top 7 teams in each conference make the MLS Cup playoffs, with the top seed in each receiving a bye to the conference semifinals. The other six teams in each conference square off in single-elimination games, with the higher seed playing host. In total, there are four rounds in the MLS Cup playoffs, with every game single-elimination.

When are the MLS Cup Playoffs?

The MLS Cup playoffs will get underway soon after the regular season ends on Oct. 21, 2024.

How to bet on soccer futures odds

MLS futures odds are constantly adjusted throughout the offseason due to player transfers and injuries. Once the season begins, title odds will change as teams win and lose games and as more players get hurt or suspended. Sportsbooks will also adjust MLS odds based on handle and liability to certain teams.

MLS futures odds will usually look like this:

This means that on a $100 bet, you’ll stand to win $500 if Seattle wins the MLS Cup. If it’s close to the end of the competition, or a club has been particularly dominant, you might see them with a minus sign (-) ahead of their odds.

This means that you would need to bet $115 to win just $100 on an LAFC MLS Cup win.
