Inter Miami – Real Salt Lake summary: score, goals and highlights | MLS

Inter Miami got the season off to a winning start but were far from convincing against Real Salt Lake on opening night.

The hosts had a hectic preseason schedule started this game as the fresher team. Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez combined well in the early stages but it was the third forward, Robert Taylor, who scored the opener shortly before halftime. 

After the break RSL came out like a new team and pinned Miami back. The visitors dominated for twenty minutes but failed to find the breakthrough. Drake Callender was called upon to make three big saves and Andres Gomez missed a gilt-edged chance. 

Eventually a goal did come, but it fell to Inter Miami after a sharp counter-attacking move. Messi drove with the ball through the midfield and slipped a pass to Suarez in the box. The Uruguayan poked the ball to Diego Gomez and the youngster made no mistake. 

Miami were able to see out the final ten minutes with minimal fuss and pick up a win on opening night. It was far from perfect, but it’ll do for Inter Miami.
