Madsen’s Career Night Leads BC Over Miami


CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College defeated Miami, 85-77, on Saturday at Conte Forum in the 57th all-time meeting between the two programs. Mason Madsen had a career night for the Eagles, finishing with 25 points and a seven 3-pointers – both career highs. Quinten Post added 23 points and six boards. It marked the third time this season the Eagles had two players score 20 or more points in the same game. 

FIRST HALF:

  • BC had the hot hand to start the game, opening up an 11-point lead – 18-7 – just over five minutes into the game.  The Eagles made 7-of-10 shots to start the game, including 4-of-6 from 3-point land.
  • Miami battled back, using a 15-5 run over the next four-plus minutes to cut the BC lead to one – 23-22.
  • There were four lead changes and four ties over the final 10 minutes. 
  • The Eagles and Hurricanes were knotted at 41-41 at the break.
  • BC connected on 43.3% from the floor, but was 9-of-13 from beyond the arc  – good for 52.9%. 
  • Post led all scorers with 16 points through the first 20 minutes. 

SECOND HALF:

  • Madsen scored nine of the first 16 points to start the second half, connecting on a trio of trifectas as BC led 57-56 with 13:44 to play. 
  • Midway through the half, Miami went on an 8-0 surge to gain a 64-59 advantage with just under 11 minutes remaining.
  • The Eagles took a slim 74-73 lead into the final three minutes of action. 
  • At the 2:13 mark, Madsen buried his 7th triple. BC did not surrender the lead for the remainder of the game. 
  • BC’s defensive corps held Miami to 1-of-8 to close the game.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Boston College finished 28-59 (47.5%) from the field, 15-30 (50.0%) from 3-point range and 14-19 (73.7%) from the free throw line.
  • Miami finished 27-51 (52.9%) from the field, 13-26 (50.0%) from three-point range and 10-17 (58.8%) from the free throw line.
  • Four players finished in double figures for the Eagles in Madsen (25), Post (23), Claudell Harris Jr. (15), and Jaeden Zackery (11). Miami also finished with four in double figures.
  • Devin McGlockton registered his fourth game with double digit rebounds, with a game-high 10 boards
  • Post finished with at least 20 points for the eighth time this season. 
  • Zackery scored in double figures for the fifth consecutive game. 
  • Harris tied his career-high with nine rebounds in the game.  

NOTES:

  • BC improved to 15-10 overall and 6-8 in ACC play.
  • The Eagles moved to 28-29 all-time vs. the Hurricanes, snapping a four-game losing streak vs. Miami. 
  • BC advanced to 10-4 in home games, 2-2 in February, 4-6 in day games, and 5-4 on weekends. 
  • Boston College is 11-10 all-time and 12-4 in ACC play in games played on the February 17 calendar date.
  • BC moved to 8-0 when scoring more than 80 points in a game.
  • The Eagles made 15 3-pointers in a game for the first time since Jan. 12, 2021, when they hit 18 triples versus Miami.

  • Boston College heads back on the road for a pair of ACC tilts next week, beginning on Tuesday at Florida State.
