Clemson falls to Miami in overtime

The Clemson women’s basketball team ended its three-game win streak on Thursday night, falling to the Miami Hurricanes 75-72 in overtime. The Tigers now sit at 11-13 on the season (4-8 ACC), placing them at 11th in the conference.

Though the Tigers were looking to continue their recent success, Miami had different plans. The Hurricanes came back from a 39-22 deficit entering halftime, and Clemson did not have an answer in the second half. Miami ultimately stormed back to send the game to overtime when they outscored Clemson 14 to 11.

Clemson forward Amari Robinson scored 24 points against the Hurricanes and pulled down seven rebounds, while guard Dayshanette Harris scored 22 points and led the team with six assists. Harris and Robinson lead the Tigers in points per game this season and have kept the team competitive in many of its games.

The Tigers struggled to get rebounds and blocks against the Hurricanes, as Miami outrebounded Clemson 44 to 33 and blocked three of the Tigers’ shots. Miami’s paint dominance was apparent; it scored 32 of its points within the paint, while Clemson scored 24.

Miami’s rebounding also helped their comeback, as the team scored 17 points from second-chance opportunities, while Clemson’s struggles in the rebounding department held the team to nine second-chance points.

Clemson dominated in the turnover department, causing 21 and scoring 23 points as a result.
The squad struggled with shooting from the field, as the Tigers made 24 of their 63 attempts, though they did end the game with nine 3-pointers, one more than Miami.

The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday in Littlejohn Coliseum as they face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who are one spot ahead of the Tigers in the ACC.
