Police officers arrest victim of Miami-Dade shooting after bullets fall from pant pocket

MIAMI – Roberto Dumas told police officers that he was walking out of a bar when someone shot him in Miami-Dade County, but he had no idea why, according to police. He would later end up in handcuffs.

Six bullets fell out of his pant pocket on Sunday at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, and when police officers searched his car they found more bullets, a spent casing, and a gun, according to the police arrest report in the case.

Dumas, 40, told police officers that he had suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg outside of Guembo’s and Grill, at 2055 NW 22 Ave., in Allapattah, and that he had no idea where the .38 Smith & Wesson Special had ended up in his car, according to the arrest report.

Dumas appeared in Miami-Dade County court on Monday. Records show he was convicted in 2012 of resisting arrest and fleeing and eluding police in Miami.

Prosecutors filed a case against him for possession of a firearm by a felon and set his bond at $7,500. It is illegal in Florida for convicted felons to possess firearms, including muzzleloading guns. There are exceptions for the restoration of civil rights and antiques.
