Miami center Norchad Omier will not play vs. Syracuse today

Syracuse, N.Y. ― The Miami Hurricanes will be without starting center Norchad Omier in today’s game against Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Omier, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound senior, will miss the game due to “lower extremity’’ injury, according to a Miami official.

Omier ranks eighth in the ACC in scoring at 17.2 points per game and he’s third in rebounding with 9.6 boards per game. His .624 field-goal percentage is second in the conference.

His 15-point, 15-rebound performance in Miami’s loss to Florida State on Wednesday was his eighth double-double of the season.

Syracuse (12-5, 3-3 ACC) is coming off a big 69-58 road win at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The win was a huge bounce-back for the Orange, which had suffered a 36-point loss at North Carolina just three days earlier.

Miami (12-5, 3-3) has lost three of its last four outings, including an 84-75 loss at home to Florida State on Wednesday.

Syracuse has played its last three games without starting center Naheem McLeod. McLeod is out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury. He had surgery performed on the foot earlier this week.
