BC Outlasts Miami for First ACC Win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Timely plays down the stretch led Boston College women’s basketball to a gritty 70-64 victory over Miami on Thursday evening in Conte Forum.
The Eagles pick up their first ACC win, improving to 9-6 and 1-1 in the league. Miami falls to 10-3 and 0-2 in conference action.
Andrea Daley was at it again, scoring 13 of her game-high 17 points in the second half on 7-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds. Teya Sidberry battled her way to 16 points, eight rebounds and totaled three steals with two blocks.
T’yana Todd scored 13 points with a pair of trifectas, while Dontavia Waggoner tallied 12 with a season-high nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Kaylah Ivey dished out a game-high seven assists with eight points and a pair of swipes.
After Miami sliced a seven-point deficit in the fourth to 63-62 with 3:41 left in the game, Sidberry hit back-to-back jumpers to push the lead to five. BC held Miami scoreless over the final 1:48 after the Hurricanes scored to close the gap to three on the ensuing possession.
The defense came up with key stops, including a steal from Ivey, and later forced Miami to miss a field goal while holding a 67-64 lead. BC sealed its seventh straight home win by hitting three of four at the charity stripe.
BC hit eight of its final 11 shot attempts of the game. Sidberry and Todd did their damage on the offensive end in the fourth, as each scored eight to combine for 16 of BC’s 20 points.
Boston College held Miami to 34.3 percent shooting in the second half (48.3 percent in first half). The game was tied 35-35 coming out of the break before Daley scored all eight points during an 8-2 run to give the hosts a six-point advantage. Miami came back to bring the lead within a possession at the end of the third.
The Eagles came out of the gate with a 7-0 start over the first 1:39 of the game. Miami responded with a 12-4 to run to capture a one-point lead until Ivey hit a trifecta at the buzzer to give BC a 14-12 edge going into the second.
Miami had its best offensive output in the second, shooting 60 percent from the floor. After claiming a 32-25 lead, BC put together a 10-3 surge to go into the half with momentum.
BC won the battle on the glass, 40-34, and outscored the Hurricanes by 15 from beyond the arc.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday at 6 p.m. against Syracuse on ACC Network.
