Over 60 police vehicles swarmed towards a marketplace in Miami on Monday night after police attempted to shut down a gathering of juveniles who were armed with sticks.
The incident – which lit up the street with blue and red flashes – took place at around 10:30pm at Bayside Market Place, an open-air shopping mall in downtown Miami.
Police told DailyMail.com that city officers were on the scene for crowd control after the juveniles refused to leave.
They claimed that no injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made yet – but it still took dozens of police officers and cars to get the situation under control.
However, police did tell CBS Miami that later on Monday night, a driver was beaten up by a group of 15 young people, which they believe was in connection to the fight at the marketplace.
It’s unclear if any arrests have been made or if the driver was hospitalized.
A number of local businesses were forced to temporarily close to allow authorities to respond to the fighting.
Police said that the juveniles have since ‘scattered’ and most of the police presence has been cleared.
Video from helicopters flying over the scene showed the sheer number of officers attending the scene – with at least 60 police cars, with lights flashing, on the street.
A spokesperson for the Miami Police Department did not know how many units had arrived.
At least one video showed a number of young people attempting to run away from the incident.
Pedestrians were seen attempting to walk away from the area as officials gathered.
According to witnesses who spoke to Local 10, the juveniles were attempting to throw fireworks at one another.
A person in the area who witnessed the fracas via a liverstream told 7News what he saw, a group of girls cornering one another and fighting before word got out that police were on the scene.
By around 11:30 p.m. local time, Miami police posted to X that the area had been cleared and traffic was flowing normally.
DailyMail.com has reached out to the Miami police for further information on the injured driver.
