The crucial plays would continue after a 4th & Goal from the five yard line.
A whip route by Turpin would draw a pass interference penalty to give Dallas a first down inside the one yard line.
A few plays later on yet another 3rd & Goal, Prescott would hit a dragging Brandin Cooks to cap a 17-play drive with a touchdown.
The Dallas defense would start the next drive in the spotlight and the Cowboys nursing a 20-19 lead.
With only 3:27 left in the game, the Dolphins started what they hoped would be the game-winning drive.
Their hopes came true.
The Cowboys defense couldn’t get a stop when it mattered most, and Sanders would hit his fifth and final field goal of the game for the winning margin of 22-20.

This is not the Christmas present Cowboys fans were hoping for.
The Cowboys came into Miami with plenty to prove. Following their loss to the Bills in Week 15, Dallas faced questions about their toughness, their ability to stop the run and whether or not they could perform on the road against a quality opponent.
They responded to a couple of those challenges, except the most important one. Dallas’ offense made a hideous mistake to start the game and then the defense was unable to close things out at the end of it. An early fumble took what looked like a certain scoring chance off the board. Dallas battled back and took the lead late, but couldn’t stop Miami’s final drive that led to their fifth field goal of the game. Dallas fell, 22-20.
The loss dropped Dallas to 10-5 on the season, with two games left to go. They will return home for a Saturday game against the Detroit Lions in Week 17 before finishing their season Week 18 in Washington.

A summary of how this disappointing loss played out.
First Quarter
Wanting to make an immediate statement and gain an early lead – Dallas being 6-0 this season when scoring on the opening drive – the Cowboys won the coin toss and chose to take the ball. And when they then methodically marched all the way down to the Miami 1-yard line in 15 plays, everything seemed to be going accordingly to plan.
But then disaster struck. After Tony Pollard was pulled down at the 1-yard line to set up first-and-goal, fullback Hunter Luepke and Prescott mishandled the handoff on the next snap, and Dolphins’ safety Brandon Jones recovered the fumble. With that, the scoring chance came to a shocking end.
Not helping matters was the fact that Tagovailoa soon thereafter connected with wideout Jaylen Waddle on a 50-yard completion to cross midfield. The Cowboys would hold the line, but Jason Sanders was good on a 57-yard field goal to get Miami on the board first.
In another one minute and 20 seconds of game clock, though, Dallas would have its lead. Prescott got the series going with a 22-yard throw to Lamb and then just two plays later went back to the star receiver. Catching the pass over the middle, Lamb outraced and outmaneuvered the Dolphins’ defense all the way to the end zone. The 49-yard score extended his touchdown streak to seven games.

4. GOAL-LINE GAFFE – The Cowboys’ entered this one 6-0 when they scored on their first drive. They didn’t get a chance to improve to 7-0. After a 14-play drive, they handed the ball to seldom-used fullback Hunter Luepke. Why? With all their skill-position options – including Dak on a run-pass option – Luepke had to be at the bottom of the list. He fumbled what looked like a perfect hand-off from Prescott to end a promising drive with a costly turnover. It turned out to be the difference in the game.

Defense, defense, defense
The Dolphins entered the game 1-3 when held to fewer than 20 points entering the fourth quarter.
Make it 2-3.
Dallas rebounded from its horrible evening at the Buffalo Bills one week prior, holding the NFL’s highest-scoring team to a single touchdown. Miami led 19-10 through the first three quarters and found the end zone just once on a 4-yard completion to running back Raheem Mostert in the second quarter.
Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders converted field goals of 57, 52, 54, 35 and 29 yards. The 29-yarder decided the game.
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle caught a 50-yard pass on Miami’s opening possession. Otherwise, the explosive plays were kept to a relative minimum. Miami averaged 3.5 yards per carry, logging 26 attempts for 91 yards.

Jalen Ramsey outfit, Dolphins postgame song choice add more humiliation to Cowboys’ Christmas Eve loss
Ramsey was asking to end up on “Old Takes Exposed” with this outfit, but he and the Dolphins backed it up. While Miami wasn’t perfect, they were down multiple starters on their offensive line and ultimately committed fewer mistakes than the Cowboys. What really rubs salt in Dallas’ wound, though, was the Dolphins song choice for their postgame celebration.
Cowboys fans are all too familiar with this song.

It had to be “We Dem Boyz” didn’t it? Cowboys fans often scream that line to the heavens following big wins. Conversely, though, it’s often the first song choice Cowboys trolls turn to following Dallas losses. We’ve grown accustomed to haters like Stephen A. Smith yelling “How ‘bout them Cowboys?” in cringy postgame videos, but “We Dem Boyz” stings all of the same.
