Miami football could be close adding first transfer
This has the potential of a big week for the Miami football team in the transfer portal. After hosting quarterbacks Will Howard of Kansas State on Monday and Cam Ward of Washington State Miami will host Indiana transfer center Zach Carpenter on Friday per an X (formerly Twitter) post from his mother.
Carpenter has started 18 games over the past two seasons. In addition to center, Carpenter has also played guard for Indiana. Carpenter signed with Indiana in the 2019 class as the 547th prospect, 32nd guard and 20th player in Ohio per the 247 Sports composite rankings out of legendary Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati.
Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U stated that Pro Football Focus graded Carpenter with a 71.8 pass-blocking grade and a 61.0 run-blocking grade in 804 snaps, all of them at center in 2023. Carpenter has one year of eligibility remaining. That would allow Miami to develop backup center Ryan Rodriguez for another season.
Carrie Carpenter posted pictures of Zach on visits to Maryland and North Carolina before his visit to Miami on Friday. Out of high school Carpenter was originally crystal balled to Clemson and signed with Michigan before transferring to Indiana. Carpenter will announce his next program on Sunday per his mother.
Miami currently has Rodriguez and Luis Cristobal on the roster who are centers. If Carpenter commits to Miami, the Hurricanes would have to recruit a center. Miami has a commitment from three-star 2024 prospect Nino Francavilla who projects as a center in college. Rodriguez would be projected as the center after Carpenter.
