Miami double murder suspect made cryptic Facebook posts before condo killings

MIAMI – “Thank you God for forgiving me, I’m ready for everything, amen,” Carlos Travieso posted on his Facebook page Sunday, three days before he would be arrested and accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother at a condominium building in Miami’s Flagami neighborhood Wednesday morning.

That post was among a series of cryptic Spanish-language posts shared by the 48-year-old in the days before the killings, including a series of posts reminiscing about his family.

Travieso appeared in court Thursday after being arrested on two first-degree murder charges in the shooting deaths of his 22-year-old ex, Isbelsy Olivera, and her 50-year-old mother, Irisbel Cartalla.

Cartalla would have celebrated her 51st birthday on Saturday; Olivera would have turned 23 on Dec. 21.

They were shot and killed in what police described as an “ambush” Wednesday morning at the Yolanda Villas condominiums, located at 801 NW 47th Ave., about a mile south of the Miami International Airport. It’s not clear how Travieso got inside.

Miami police said Travieso drove to the West Miami Police Department and confessed to the crime.

The condominium property manager told Local 10 News that Cartalla worked at the building as a custodian and was “full of life, very happy, outgoing” and that she and her daughter were “beautiful people” who did not deserve to have their lives cut short.

Neighbors were stunned by the deadly double shooting.

“Did not have the pleasure to meet the daughter, but I did know the mom — very wonderful lady,” neighbor Jackie Granda said. “She was always very happy, very alegre — very, very, very nice lady and it’s unfortunate that this happened.”

Travieso was ordered held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
