Retired Miami Dade Police Lieutenant Evelyn Fernandez barricaded inside home after shooting at her boyfriend in SW Miami-Dade – NBC 6 South Florida

Police are investigating after a woman allegedly shot at her boyfriend and later barricaded herself at a home in Southwest Miami-Dade, officials said.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, shortly before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the area of 282 Street SW 167 Avenue to reports of a shooting.

Sources tell NBC6 the woman barricaded is 44-year-old retired Miami Dade Police Lieutenant Evelyn Fernandez.

When officers arrived, they found that Fernandez had shot at her boyfriend, but missed and hit his car instead.

Police said she then fled the scene and there were no reported injuries.

Throughout the investigation, however, police discovered she was barricaded at another home in the area of 174 Street SW 142 Place.

The Miami-Dade Priority Response Team and Special Response Team are actively working this scene.

Video captured from the scene shows authorities asking Fernandez to come out with her hands up.

In 2016, Fernandez was arrested and charged with one count of burglary to an unoccupied structure and one count of criminal mischief valued at over $1,000.

She was released on bond and ordered to stay away from then-boyfriend former Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez.

This is a developing story. Check back with NBC6 for updates.
