Miss Dolphins LG Isaiah Wynn expected to miss multiple weeks with quad injury suffered on Sunday
Lester Cotton replaced Wynn as Miami’s left guard.
Miami Dolphins left guard Isaiah Wynn suffered a quad injury early in Sunday’s 31-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football and didn’t return to the game. The Dolphins were without left tackle Terron Armstead and center Connor Williams, and now Miami’s starting left guard will miss an extended period of time.
“We are getting more information, but it does look like it will be weeks, as it wasn’t a bump or a bruise,” coach Mike McDaniel said of Wynn’s injury. “We’ll gather more for specificity, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing him for weeks.”
Wynn started all seven games without surrendering a single sack, yet the former New England Patriots first-round pick did allow four pressures and drew three penalties, according to PFF.
Lester Cotton struggled in place of Wynn and allowed four pressures against a fierce Philadelphia front. He was penalized twice while playing 44 of the team’s 49 snaps. Third-year guard Robert Jones is also on the roster, but McDaniel expressed confidence in Cotton’s ability to adapt and find his footing.
“I think Lester [Cotton] is a very accountable person and has come as far as really anybody that we’ve had on the roster since he joined the team last year,” McDaniel said on Sunday. “I think it’s a tough spot to be in – to go out there and perform against a front like that. There’s some stuff that I know he can do better that he would do better if he had the whole practice week as the starter.
“So first and foremost, I believe in the player and lost zero confidence in him, but he’ll be the first one to say that there’s some stuff that he would expect to be better at.”
