Woman arrested months after man robbed of $750,000 watch at Miami Open

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A 39-year-old woman was arrested last week, months after she allegedly robbed a man of his nearly million-dollar Richard Mille watch during the Miami Open tennis tournament at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

According to her arrest report, Sonia Montenegro Bolanos, who police say is a Colombian citizen in the U.S. under a “non-immigrant visa,” was arrested Friday on charges of strong-arm robbery and conspiracy to commit strong-arm robbery.

An arrest warrant states that Montenegro Bolanos approached the 38-year-old victim on April 2 as he was on a pedestrian sky bridge, getting ready to leave the stadium.

Miami-Dade police said the victim was bumped from behind and when he turned around he saw Montenegro Bolanos with two of her fingers between his watchband and wrist.

The victim told police he immediately grabbed his watch, which is valued at $750,000, to prevent Montenegro Bolanos from taking it.

According to the warrant, the two struggled for the watch, at which time a second woman, identified in the warrant only by her last name “Sabogal,” snatched the watch from the victim and then passed it to an unknown third person as the victim grabbed her.

Police said the victim was holding on to both women when Montenegro Bolanos began to scream “rape.”

He then let both women go and the two fled south toward parking lot 18, authorities said.

Police said the entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

According to the warrant, Sabogal is also a Colombian citizen and is in the U.S. illegally.

The warrant states that both women “are a flight risk and may flee back to Colombia or to another state.”

As of Monday, Montenegro Bolanos was no longer appearing in the jail database.

It’s unclear whether Sabogal has been located at this time.
