Miami Dolphins records broken in 70-20 win over Denver Broncos

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel may not have kicked the field goal for the NFL’s all-time single-game scoring record, but the historic 70-20 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday saw at least 13 team or individual franchise records broken.

Here are the team single-game records broken:

— Most points: 70;

— Most touchdowns: 10;

— Most total yards: 726;

— Most rushing yards: 350;

— Most extra-point kicks made: 10;

— Most points scored in the second half of a game: 35 (record tied).

Here are the individual records:

— Most touchdowns: Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane 4;

— Most points scored: Mostert, Achane 24;

— Most rushing yards by a rookie: Achane 203;

— Most touchdowns by a rookie: Achane 4;

— Most extra points made: Jason Sanders 10.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa set a Dolphins record for passing yards through three games (1,024), and wide receiver Tyreek Hill has the most receiving yards a Dolphins player has gained through three games (412).

The Dolphins’ 70 points were most in an NFL game since 1966. It was second-most in regular-season play (Washington with 72 in 1966), while Chicago also had 73 points in the 1940 NFL Championship.

Miami’s 726 total yards were second-most in league history (behind 735 for 1951 Los Angeles Rams).

The Dolphins became the first team in NFL history with five passing touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns in a game.

The Mostert-Achane running back duo became only the second pair of teammates to score four touchdowns each in the same game, joining the 2004 Chiefs’ Priest Holmes and Derrick Blaylock in a 56-10 win over the Falcons.

Achane’s 203 rushing yards broke an NFL record for a player in his first or second game of his career in the Super Bowl era (since 1970).

By defeating Broncos coach Sean Payton, Tagovailoa extended his winning streak over Super-Bowl winning coaches to 10, an NFL record. After losing to Kansas City’s Andy Reid in December of 2020, he has since reeled off five wins against Bill Belichick, a second against Payton, and one against John Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin and Jon Gruden.

Tagovailoa’s 155.8 passer rating Sunday was a personal career best. He started the win over the Broncos with 17 consecutive completions, one off Ryan Tannehill’s record of 18 to start a game, set Oct. 25, 2015 versus Houston.

Miami’s 130 points and 1,651 yards are both team bests through three games.
