Quick thoughts from South Florida Sun Sentinel staffers on the Miami Dolphins’ comeback win over the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday:
Chris Perkins, Dolphins Columnist
The offense, led by Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa, was outstanding. The defense was shaky in its debut under coordinator Vic Fangio, but the offense was amazing. Excellent victory, especially without Terron Amrstead.
David Furones, Dolphins Writer
Nothing like last year. Tua was sharp, exceptional. Mike McDaniel had all the adjustments for Brandon Staley’s defense. The middle of the field was open on several occasions and hit. Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ stout run defense of a year ago was a no-show, but they got the stop at the end.
Keven Lerner, Assistant Sports Editor
It is really difficult to give up 237 rushing yards and win a game, but when you have as dynamic an offensive display as the Dolphins had from Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill in Los Angeles, everything is off the table. Hard to remember a more spectacular Dolphins season opener.
Steve Svekis, Sports Senior Content Editor
Tua Tagovailoa once again put in a historical performance in the Dolphins road opener, with his 466 yards and three touchdown passes on the same Hall of Fame level as his six-touchdown-pass spectacular comeback in Baltimore last year. The Dolphins gave up a whopping number of yards on the ground, but with Tua and Tyreek Hill, it is almost — almost — an afterthought.
