2025 Top247 WR Waden Charles commits to Miami

Miami has landed a commitment from one of its top Class of 2025 targets on Sunday roughly 24 hours after a huge win over Texas A&M.

And Palm Beach Central Top247 athlete Waden Charles was in the stands to watch it all as Tyler Van Dyke aired it out for 374 yards and five touchdowns. Now, he’s pledged to the local Hurricanes. Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Texas A&M, Florida, and Auburn are a few notable programs who have offered to this point in his process.

Considered the No. 196 overall player and No. 10 athlete in the junior class, the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder has spent plenty of time around the Hurricanes, most recently for that 48-33 victory, which he was impressed by.

“I was excited by the success Miami had throwing the ball,” Charles told 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong after the game last night. “The receivers played great. I am very impressed on what Miami did. They lost to A&M last year and came back this year and won. This is the start of them rebuilding Miami and I can’t wait to see it.”

Charles also camped for the program in June, where 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins named him the ‘Alpha Dog’ of the day.

Charles might be listed by 247Sports as an athlete, but he worked out exclusively with the wide receivers on Thursday and made a case that he should be viewed primarily as an offensive talent moving forward after hauling in a 50-50 ball in the back corner of the end zone. Charles, who put together some strong safety tape as a sophomore at Boynton Beach (Fla.) Somerset Academy Canyons, did a nice job of creating separation on the outside and ran one of the routes of the day when he hit the brakes on a comeback to the sidelines and lost a defensive back in the process. The Hurricanes made sure the Top247 recruit got plenty of attention both during and after the camp,” Ivins wrote.

With Charles on board, the Hurricanes now hold a pair of commitments in the Class of 2025 with Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton quarterback Luke Nickel being the other.

He visited the last week of July ahead of the month-long August ‘dead period’ and walked out feeling great about the Hurricanes.

“Miami definitely, definitely my top school right now,” Charles said after that July visit. “They’re showing the most love out of everybody. Me and [Kevin Beard] have a good relationship and we’re also still building it, so it’s really a good relationship with Miami.”
