Miami played a mostly error-free game in it opener to suggest some of the sloppy problems of last season have been resolved. This game becomes a statement of just where the program is early in Year 2 of the Mario Cristobal era. It just hasn’t done anything of late to think it will pull off the upset against a ranked opponent.

The Hurricanes looked vastly improved in Week 1, handling their business against Miami (Ohio). Unfortunately for UM, so did Texas A&M. New offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino had the Aggies’ passing game humming in a season-opening win over New Mexico. Texas A&M features former five-star QB Conner Weigman and elite wide receiver Evan Stewart — along with several other extremely talented receivers. Miami’s cornerbacks could have a lot of trouble with those receivers, and if they can’t keep them in check, that could spell doom for the Hurricanes.

Both teams are coming off wins against lesser opponents. Miami had its way in a 38-3 win against Miami (Ohio), while Texas A&M routed New Mexico 52-10. Both teams are coming off disappointing 5-7 seasons, but both schools have improved dramatically and Saturday’s showdown should come down to the wire. The Aggies’ strong defensive line could be the difference against Henry Parrish Jr. and Miami’s rushing attack. Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman is coming off an impressive five-touchdown performance.
