Time at University of Miami nearly broke the Cavinder twins apart

It wasn’t all fun and games for the Cavinder twins during their time at the University of Miami.
Hanna and Haley Cavinder — who became top NIL earners while playing basketball for the Hurricanes — explained In a profile with GQ how they were severely divided in their senior year, which left one of them “spiraling” and breaking down in tears.
Haley had a stellar season with the Hurricanes last year, and started every game while she led the team in scoring on their way to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament — while Hanna came off the bench and didn’t see the same minutes.
“It was hard to talk to Haley, because she was having a different experience on the court than I was,” Hanna said. “Mentally, I was spiraling.
“It was one of my lowest years, and I don’t think anybody really realized that. I wanted to get on the court.”
Hanna eventually sought out a therapist, and her mom, Katie, recalled seeing her daughter break down in tears during visits.
Haley and Hanna, 5-foot-6 guards from Arizona, transferred from Fresno State, where they were began their NIL rise, to Miami ahead of the 2022 season.
Their lone season with the Hurricanes was the first time the twins had been separated on the court, which left Haley feeling guilty for her success.
“Hanna kind of took the back burner for my senior year,” Haley said. “I was experiencing everything kind of without her … And that’s my person, you know?
“It was sickening to see her deal with it. It kind of put a little divide in our friendship and relationship as twins.”
Hailey explained that while making it to March Madness “was our dream” and the reason she and her sister transferred schools, she wasn’t confident that Hanna would return for their fifth year of eligibility.
“After that [March Madness] ended I was thinking, ‘Hanna’s for sure not coming back,’” Haley recalled.
“I was ready for that door to close,” Hanna said.
When it came time to make their decision, Haley and Hanna were divided once again.
Haley was set on returning for a final year with the Hurricanes, while Hanna wanted to focus on their brand and businesses.
The twins ultimately decided to forgo their fifth season and graduated from the University of Miami in May.
“But we’re 22, and she’s my best friend,” Haley said of Hanna. “Even without basketball, being with my twin sister, that’s my rock and that’s what I want to do.”
Haley and Hanna previously explained on their “Twin Talk” podcast that they experiences their biggest fight while deciding whether to leave Miami.
Haley and Hanna moved to Fort Lauderdale in July, and are currently focused on their NIL deals and building their brand.
The sisters signed an NIL deal with WWE in December 2021, and have signed two dozen sponsorship deals, earning an estimated $2 million annually.
Haley and Hanna rose to TikTok fame during the COVID-19 pandemic, and currently have 4.5 million followers on the content-sharing app.
