Largest UHealth ambulatory care site is rising

Construction at the UHealth at SoLé Mia continues to move forward with projected plans to officially open in mid-2025.

The seven-story, 363,000-square-foot medical center at 211 SoLé Mia Way in North Miami plans to offer care in specialties across UHealth.

The medical center will offer the communities of North Miami, Aventura, and the surrounding areas access to academic medicine focused on healing, wellness, and prevention, delivered by some of the brightest minds in medicine, said Dr. Roy Weiss, chief medical officer of ambulatory services for University of Miami Health System.

“We’re working with a building structure built out of the second floor, which is going to be the surgical services in progress. First-floor underground piping and concrete ports are all ongoing,” he said. “The parking garage construction is ongoing, and the building will be topped out around March of 2024.”

The medical center will also include cancer specialists from Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and urological treatments from the Desai Sethi Urology Institute. Over 100 specialty physicians in cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and physical rehabilitation will also provide services at the center along with over 300 nurses and tech support new hires.

The state-of-the-art facility is to feature 110 exam rooms, 10 operating rooms, 33 clinical treatment units for cancer patients, open green space including a reflection garden, and views of the ocean and lagoon that will enhance the experience for patients receiving extended services.

UHealth at SoLé Mia will be part of a 184-acre mixed-use development “Miami’s next city within a city” in North Miami, a joint venture between real estate developers LeFrak and Turnberry. The expansiveness of the site has provided LeFrak and Turnberry the opportunity to create a community of residential, retail, and other commercial options.

“When completed in mid-2025, UHealth at SoLé Mia will be the health system’s largest ambulatory site to date,” Dr. Weiss added, “and it’s really a fantastic opportunity to bring academic medicine to the community surrounding areas that focuses on healing, wellness and prevention. Everything we do is research based on the best practices so that we can provide cutting-edge medical care.”
