Lionel Messi had a water bottle thrown at him after Inter Miami’s defeat of LAFC on Sunday night, video shows.
Messi, who had two assists in the 3-1 win, was walking off the field at BMO Stadium alongside his bodyguard when the object was thrown in his direction and splashed.
The bottle missed the World Cup winner, who could be seen flinching as his bodyguard looked alarmed as well.
Mail Sport has reached out to MLS for further information regarding the incident.
Minutes before in 73rd minute, Messi was rushed by a field invader.
The fan, who wore a Barcelona jersey, successfully made it as far as the forward and even managed to begin to wrap his arms around him in an attempt to hug the soccer superstar.
However, the supporter was quickly pried off Messi by his bodyguard, who had sprinted onto the field to protect his client.
The fan was then passed off to stadium security.
Messi was ultimately not distracted by the incident as he added his second assist of the night to Leo Campana in the 83rd minute.
He also supplied Jordi Alba for the full-back’s first Miami goal in the 51st minute with a perfectly weighted through ball.
Miami, still eight points out of the Eastern Conference’s final play-in spot with nine games to go, will face Sporting KC on Saturday at home.
