‘I don’t give a c**p, just enjoy it!’

Lionel Messi does not need to have a bad game for Inter Miami in MLS to improve the reputation of the league, says Alexi Lalas: ‘I don’t give a c**p, just enjoy it!’

Former US international Alexi Lalas has shot the theory that Lionel Messi needs to have a bad game for Inter Miami in able for Major League Soccer to save face and not look bad.

Since Messi has moved to Inter Miami, he has gone on to score nine goals in six Leagues Cup games since his debut, as the team have torn through the competition since his arrival.

‘It’s Messi, he’s doing what you pay him to do and what you want him to do,’ Lalas said during his ‘State of the Union’ podcast. ‘He’s doing what you pay him to do and doing it in a completely different situation.’

‘We’re so sensitive and we’re so worried about what others think of our soccer, and our league, and our culture and I don’t give a c**p anymore. I just want to enjoy it.’

‘I want to enjoy Messi scoring goals and not have to ascribe value or devalue as to the teams that he’s playing against… It’s sports, it’s a league, just sit back and enjoy it.’

Wayne Rooney was one of several around the league predicted Messi would struggle at first

Since Messi debuted for Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup he has been in tremendous form.

His most recent goal in the League Cup Semifinal against the Philadelphia Union included a 35-yard stunner that sent social media crazy in Miami’s 4-1 win.

Following the game Union head coach Jim Curtain said Messi ‘humbled’ his team.

Messi turning the Leagues Cup into his own personal scoring display has also proven wrong the predictions of several big names around the league.

One of such names was English soccer legend turned DC United head coach Wayne Rooney.

‘He won’t find it easy here. It sounds mad but players who come in find it’s a tough league,’ Rooney said in his column for The Times in England.

Along with being a coach in MLS, Rooney also spent time playing for United many years ago.

Hopefully Rooney has been enjoying the skill Messi has put on display while competing against both MLS and Liga MX teams.
