Jesuit’s Noble Meyer selected 10th overall by Miami Marlins in 2023 MLB draft

Jesuit’s Noble Meyer didn’t have to wait long to hear his name called on Sunday night. The right-handed pitcher whose fastball gets up to the triple digits was selected No. 10 overall in the MLB draft by the Miami Marlins.

Meyer was in attendance at Lumen Field in Seattle for the draft.

“I have no words. I’m on top of the world right now,” Meyer said in the ESPN broadcast after being drafted.

He was the fourth high schooler taken in Sunday’s draft. The No. 1 overall pick was LSU pitcher Paul Skenes.

Standing at six-foot-five, Meyer has been the Crusaders’ ace the past two seasons as Jesuit went a combined 51-10 and played in the 2023 OSAA state championship game. On the mound, Meyer went a combined 20-2 the past two seasons. As a junior he had a 0.72 ERA and 129 strikeouts. As a senior, Meyer had a 0.41 ERA and 142 strikeouts.

In his senior season, Meyer’s fastball has surged into the triple-digit range. He’s also known for a nasty slider that has a spin rate of 3,100 rpms.

Mock drafts had Meyer at several different positions in the first round of the 2023 draft. Bleacher Report had Meyer at No. 8 overall to the Royals. The MLB’s mock draft had him going No. 9 to the Rockies. The Athletic put Meyer at No. 16 to San Francisco and CBS Sports put him at No. 17 to Baltimore.

Meyer is the second early pick from Jesuit’s baseball team in recent years. Mick Abel was selected No. 15 by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2020 draft.
