Nearly 400 attend Miami-Dade County Asian-American Advisory Board Gala
The Miami-Dade County Asian-American Advisory Board held its highly anticipated 25th year anniversary celebration on June 10 at the Coral Gables Golf and Country Club. An impressive crowd of approximately 400 guests attended the milestone community recognition gala.
Miami-Dade County Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert III delivered inspiring remarks highlighting the board’s accomplishments and emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration.
Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, through a video presentation, stressed the importance of embracing each other’s diversity to keep Miami-Dade County a strong inclusive community to work, live, and thrive. Miami-Dade Police Director (MDPD) and Chief of Safety and Emergency Response Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III attended the ceremony on behalf of the mayor.
Established in 1997 by the Miami-Dade County Commission, the AAAB has remained steadfast in its commitment to advocate for and advance the interests of Asian American residents in Miami-Dade County. The 25th anniversary gala provided an opportunity to reflect upon the achievements of the AAAB over the past quarter-century and express gratitude for the support received from various organizations.
“The overwhelming support we received at our 25th year anniversary gala was truly remarkable,” said Dr. Li Gurau, chair of the Asian-American Advisory Board. “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the community and partner organizations for their unwavering commitment to advancing the interests of Asian American residents in Miami-Dade County.”
The Chinese New Year Festival Committee, Make Us Visible Florida, Networking for Hindu Professionals, Thai American Association of South Florida Inc., Universal Medical Clinic, and Jinglu Cao received Community Service awards. Kim Ng, the general manager of the Miami Marlins, also participated in the event through a video presentation and Jacqueline Quynh, reporter for CBS Miami, was the emcee.
In addition to its commemorative purpose, the AAAB’s community recognition gala served as a successful fundraiser for the Florida International University First Generation Scholarship. Attendees had the opportunity to contribute to this worthy cause while enjoying the festivities of the evening.
“The success of the event was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the members of the AAAB, the support of the Office of Community Advocacy, and the overwhelming response and participation of the Asian American communities in South Florida,” said Joshua Ho, AAAB’s program director.
