Miami Police shoot suspect armed with assault rifle – NBC 6 South Florida

A police officer shot a suspect who was armed with an assault rifle Friday in Miami.

Miami Police said Northeast 79th Street from 8th Avenue to 10th Street was closed for the investigation.

Police received a call after 8 p.m. from neighbors about a man shooting a gun in the air, said Chief Manuel Morales.

When officers responded, the suspect was standing outside of a car with the weapon and there was an exchange of gunfire with officers. One of them shot the suspect in the torso.

The suspect, who lives in the area, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Morales said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation.
