Where Miami football goes after Jacory Barney Nebraska commit

Four-star wide receiver Jacory Barney surprised analysts when he chose Nebraska over the Miami football program and Texas A&M on Saturday night. All five 247 Sports crystal balls projected Barney to Miami. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projected Miami with a 97.3 percent chance for a Barney commitment.

Barney is the 416th ranked prospect, 35th athlete and 62nd recruit in Florida out of Miami Palmetto in the 2024 class. The Miami football program currently has 14 commits in the 2024 class. With Barney committing to Nebraska, four-star prospect Chance Robinson remains the only WR committed to Miami in 2024.

Miami remains the 28th-ranked 2024 class after Barney committed to Nebraska. It has not been a lost weekend for Miami. Three-star defensive back Romanas Frederique flipped from West Virginia to Miami on Friday night. More commitments are expected for Miami throughout July.

None of the 40 prospects that took official visits to Miami in June have set commitment dates. All of the WRs that took official visits to Miami in June are committed elsewhere. A player to watch for Miami at WR is five-star prospect Joshisa Trader. On3 projects Miami with a 92 percent chance for a Trader commitment.

Steve Wiltfong the 247 Sports Director of Football Recruiting logged a crystal ball for Trader to Miami. Zach Blostein a contributor to the Florida State 247 Sports site logged a crystal ball for Trader to the Seminoles. Miami is not currently trending for any other WR in the 2024 recruiting class.

In addition to Robinson, Miami also has a commitment from four-star tight end Elija Lofton. Tyler Harrell who transferred to Miami this spring and 2022 transfer Frank Ladson are in their final seasons of eligibility for Miami at WR. If the Hurricanes cannot sign another 2024 WR expect them to be busy in the 2024 transfer portal.

Miami has had too many misses from local WRs in multiple recent classes. A commitment from Trader would be a huge addition to Miami in 2024. Kevin Beard is expected to upgrade recruiting for Miami at WR. Beard was hired as WR coach during the 2022 offseason for his second stint on the Miami staff.
