Messi’s Inter Miami salary eclipses rest of MLS
MLS club Inter Miami delivered a major coup after Lionel Messi confirmed recently that he plans to join the South Miami side when his current deal with PSG expires at the end if the month.
David Beckham and Inter Miami managed to convince the world champion to join their ranks and the appeal of Florida where the player already has a house was an attractive proposition for the Argentine.
However, Inter Miami’s salary proposal was well short of the package being offered by the Saudi Pro League who attempted to lure the striker to the Gulf with a reported $440 million dollar salary.
The $54 million on the table from Inter Miami pales in comparison but the Argentine is also set to receive earnings from television rights as part of the MLS/Apple joint venture. The striker who is already sponsored by Adidas will also get a percentage of all replica shirts sold with the league having an exclusive deal with the German sports brand.
Messi’s salary dwarves that of Inter teammates
Before the arrival of the former FC Barcelona player, Venezuelan striker Josef Martínez was the club’s highest-paid player with the forme Atlanta United striker earning $4 million per season with the ‘Garzas.’
Messi will earn a salary of $54 million dollars, $50 million more than the Venezuelan and $46 million more than the highest paid in the league, which is the Swiss Xherdan Shaqiri with the Chicago Fire man pocketing $8,2 million per campaign.
