Mainieri stepped down from the job in Baton Rouge after 15 seasons with a 641-283-3 record. Prior to his time with LSU, he served as head coach at Notre Dame (1995-2006) and at Air Force (1989-94). The UNO alum took the Fighting Irish to the College World Series once.

The 65-year old led the Tigers from 2007 to 2021, guiding LSU to the 2009 national championship, the 2017 CWS finals and five overall trips to Omaha. His teams also won four SEC regular-season championships and six tournament titles.
