No. 16 Duke Drops Regular Season Finale to No. 11 Miami


CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 16 Duke (35-19, 16-13 ACC) dropped the regular season finale to No. 11 Miami (37-18, 18-12 ACC), 10-1 on Saturday in Coral Gables, Fla. The Blue Devils are heading to the ACC Tournament as the #5 seed in Pool D, along with Miami and NC State. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Miami opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a grand slam, 4-0.
  • Freshman Tyler Albright flew out to right field to score Alex Stone from third in the top of the fourth, 4-1.
  • The Hurricanes added a run in the bottom of the fourth, 5-1.
  • Miami extended its lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the seventh. 
  • The Hurricanes added a trio in the bottom of the eighth, 10-1.

NOTES 

  • The game entered an hour and seven-minute lightning delay after playing the first inning. Play resumed at 2:30 p.m. 
  • Junior Alex Stone extended his hitting streak to 28 games, singling in the fourth inning of today’s contest. His multi-hit effort on Sunday ties Alex Mooney for the team lead with 21 multi-hit games.
  • Duke will be the fifth seed in the ACC Tournament, joining Pool D with Miami and NC State.
  • Sophomore David Boisvert made his first appearance of the season on Saturday.

  • Duke will await the 2023 ACC Championship schedule, announced on Sunday morning. The Blue Devils are in Pool D with Miami and NC State.
