The future University of Miami defense added to its recruiting bounty when three-star linebacker Vincent Shavers pledged his allegiance on Friday night to the Hurricanes Class of 2024.

Shavers will play for Miami Central High his senior season in 2023 after transferring from Monsignor Pace. He is the third South Florida commit of the eight high school players who have committed to the Canes for ‘24.

The other two South Floridians of the eight: four-star St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Chance Robinson and three-star running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey of South Broward High.

Shavers, listed as 6-1 and 200 pounds, is ranked the 66th best linebacker by 247Sports for 2024, and the 102nd best player, regardless of position, in Florida, and 722nd nationally.

On3.com has Shavers as the No. 74 linebacker, No. 92 in the state and 666th nationally.

His numbers, per Max Preps, for 2022: 56 tackles (43 solo), eight sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries.

UM’s 2024 class is now ranked 24th overall by 247Sports and 25th by On3.

“It feels good to be a Cane,’’ Shavers told InsidetheU before he committed. “It’s always good to put on for the crib. Miami is home. I see [Mario] Cristobal got something going on for the team, trying to get it back to the old Miami.’’

UM’s 2024 pledges include a receiver, running back, offensive tackle and quarterback on offense; and two safeties and Shavers on defense. The Canes also have a commitment from the nation’s No. 2 kicker Abram Murray of Shreveport, Louisiana.
