Andy Hellinger: His River Landing causing splash in emerging Allapattah

Andrew B. Hellinger is the co-founder and principal of Urban-X Group, a real estate development firm based in Coral Gables that has achieved great success in the development of River Landing Shops and Residences.

The more than 2.2 million-square-foot project in 1400 NW North River Dr. was completed in September 2020. It is a six-minute drive to Jackson Memorial Hospital, between Allapattah and the Health District.

With 346,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, 118,000 square feet of rooftop office space, more than 2,000 parking spaces, 528 apartment units with a variety of sizes, 28,000 square feet of riverfront dining and 850 feet of public riverfront, River Landing is deemed to bring vibrancy, connectivity, and economic growth to the area, said Mr. Hellinger.

The massive mixed-use development, which sits on 8.14 acres, is the first large-scale project in the neighborhood in almost 50 years, according to the company, and it’s almost fully leased.

Mr. Hellinger has more than 25 years of experience managing real estate developments, founding and leading companies such as Hellinger Penabad Co., and Leviev Boymelgreen Developers, an Israeli-based real estate partnership in Florida. Prior to that, he served as an attorney and adviser to firms and lenders of public and private companies, after obtaining a law degree from the University of Miami.

“When they talk about Allapattah, they say, ‘If River Landing did it, we can do it too’,” said Mr. Hellinger. “River Landing is showing the investment and the development community that this is a place to invest your dollars, to put your business, or to build apartments, because it is possible.”
