Miami lights up in support for the Heat against the Celtics
The facade of the Paramount Miami Worldcenter building will on Tuesday night serve once again as a screen for a digital animation dedicated to the Miami Heat ahead of their NBA Playoff battle against the Boston Celtics.
In celebration of the Heat’s victory over the New York Knicks, which clinched a berth in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, Miami residents have been able to see the Heat symbol on the huge 60-story-high digital screen before sunrise and after sunset since last Friday. The silhouette of a basketball player and messages such as ‘Go Heat’ can also be seen.
The Paramount Miami Worldcenter building is located in front of Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami, very close to the Kaseya Center, where the Celtics will play the Heat next Sunday. It has the most technologically advanced Color Kinetics lighting system in the world on its main facade.
Eight kilometres of connected cables
It consists of more than 8 kilometres of wires connected to 13,400 LEDs, embedded in 10,000 high-impact glass panels, according to a statement from the company that developed this real estate project.
The system, which can create 16.7 million colour combinations, turns the building’s facade into a digital screen the size of two and a half football pitches placed vertically. The total operating power of the system is 111.6 amps and 13,400 watts and a total lumen, which is the amount of light emitted per second, of 402,000.
Three years to install the system
It took 12 technicians three years to design and install the lighting system devised by West Palm Beach, Florida-based L.E.D. Smith, which has completed projects on monuments, bridges and skyscrapers around the world, including the Empire State Building in New York.
The 27-acre (10.9 hectare), 4-billion-dollar Paramount Miami Worldcenter is the second largest real estate development in the United States.
