JUCO WR Shemar Kirk commits to Miami
It took some time but Miami got the body type they wanted on Saturday when Louisiana-Monroe transfer defensive lineman Anthony Campbell committed to the Hurricanes over offers from Mississippi State and Purdue with two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-7, 283-pounder spent the whole day Friday and Saturday around the Hurricanes while on an official visit and that helped Miami close the gap on some prominent programs also seeking some help along the defensive front.
Campbell, who holds an ‘88’ rating from the 247Sports transfer rankings council, becomes the third transfer defensive lineman to pick Miami since the 2023 season ended, joining Georgia State’s Thomas Gore and Purdue’s Branson Deen. But Campbell becomes an important figure on Lance Guidry’s defense, especially against the run where the junior was credited with a 74.4 grade with the Warhawks last fall.
A Bartow, Florida product who is a native of Kingston, Jamaica, Campbell spent two seasons at Independence (KS) Community College before finding a home in Monroe for the past two seasons.
In 2022, Campbell totaled 206 snaps, 71 coming lined up as a defensive tackle, and generated 16 pressures while totaling 3.5 tackles for loss. As a transfer, Campbell earned offers from programs like Penn State, West Virginia, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Cal, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, TCU, and Indiana amongst others.
He joins a top ten ranked Miami transfer class that is headlined by interior offensive lineman Javion Cohen (Alabama), center Matt Lee (UCF), linebacker Francisco Mauigoa (Washington State), cornerback Davonte Brown (UCF), and cornerback Jaden Davis (Oklahoma).
With Campbell on board, 13 FBS transfers have found a new home in Coral Gables.
