LAFC – Galaxy headlines U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 draw

The 2023 U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 field is set with one of the league’s growing rivalries taking centerstage.
Thursday’s draw featured all 16 winners from this week’s Round of 32 action, pitting Los Angeles FC and the LA Galaxy against one another later this month. LAFC eliminated Monterey Bay FC in a penalty shootout while the LA Galaxy ousted the Seattle Sounders in regulation.
A Rocky Mountain Cup showdown will also take place in the Round of 16 as the Colorado Rapids welcome Real Salt Lake to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids edged Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC 4-2 this week while Real Salt Lake eliminated the Portland Timbers by a 4-3 scoreline away from home.
Two USL clubs will play host to MLS opposition in the Round of 16 as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds face the Columbus Crew and Birmingham Legion FC host Charlotte FC.
