Perez reprimanded for unusual rule break in Miami

Sergio Perez has received a reprimand from Formula 1 stewards for arriving late to the Miami Grand Prix driver’s parade.

The Mexican finished second in the race after being passed on Lap 48 of 57 by teammate and title rival Max Verstappen on a contra-strategy.

Verstappen has extended his points lead to 14 after achieving a maximum haul of 26, but Perez was brought to the stewards over a breach of Article 19.4 of the Sporting Regulations.

The stewards found that Perez was late arriving to the driver’s parade pre-race due to the “team’s media and other commercial commitments the driver had to satisfy before turning up.”

The stewards found this “not a valid reason for the lateness” and so the Red Bull driver was slapped with a reprimand (non-driving).

Under the current regulations, if a driver accumulates five reprimands ‘in the same Championship’ season, will receive a ten-place grid penalty. However, this will only be imposed if four of the five reprimands are for driving offences, unlike the offence made by Perez in this scenario.

It means he does not lose his second place from the race and heads to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix next time out on 105 points to Verstappen’s 119.
