F1 Miami GP live practice updates: Verstappen fastest in FP2, Leclerc crashes out

We’re through the second practice session of the 2023 Miami Grand Prix. The leaderboard looked pretty much as you might expect. Max Verstappen holds the fastest time from FP2, followed by the two Ferraris, his teammate Sergio Pérez, and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.

In the first practice session, some familiar names showed great lap times, and one midfield team experienced the mixed bag of mixed bags.

Mercedes showed well, as George Russell led practice with a 1:30.125 lap time – impressive considering he missed most of the practice replacing his steering. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, followed him in pace, followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Last week’s winner, Sergio Pérez, found himself down in P11 before his recovery in FP2.

A lot of drivers had hiccups as they got reacquainted with the Miami circuit. In FP1, Nico Hülkenberg crashed out, and Nyck de Vries never returned after an early spin. In FP2, Kevin Magnussen spun, and Charles Leclerc crashed into the wall.

The final practice starts tomorrow at 12:30 pm ET, which is 5:30 pm BST. Qualifying gets underway at 4pm EST, which is 9pm BST.
