Jonathan Guidry Decisions Bermane Stiverne Over Ten in Miami
Casino Miami Jai-Alai in Miami, Florida – Heavyweight contender Jonathan Guidry (19-1-2, 10 KOs) picked up the biggest win of his career with a ten round unanimous decision over former WBC world champion Bermane Stiverne (25-6-1, 21 KOs).
The scores were 100-91, 97-93 and 100-91.
Stiverne, 44-years-old, was fighting for the first time in two years. He’s now lost four in a row and five of his last six fights. The veteran has not been very active in the last few years. After getting stopped in one round by Wilder in 2017, he was off until 2019 and was knocked out by Joe Joyce. And then he was out of the ring until 2021, when he suffered another knockout at the hands of Trevor Byran.
Guidry has now won two in a row since losing a split decision to Trevor Bryan a year ago.
The fight with Stiverne had little action, but Guidry put in more work in a bout where neither boxer seemed to be in serious trouble during the course of the action. Stiverne was simply not active enough and never let his hands go during the fight. At times he was right in front of Guidry and was backing him up, but he didn’t throw many punches while doing so.
