Shatford Scores Twice in ACHA Women’s Hockey Loss to Miami (Ohio)
Risa Shatford led the offense with two goals, but women’s ACHA hockey still fell to Miami University (Ohio) 4-2 Thursday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The first Shatford score came just 3:36 into the opening period with help from Ardyn Hawryshko and Loki Antonio. It gave the Lions a 1-0 lead, but that was short-lived as the Redhawks responded with the next two, the first coming at the 6:57 mark and the second coming at 11:17 on the power play.
Miami made it 3-1 with another power play goal early in the middle frame. The second Shatford score cut the deficit to one with 5:55 remaining in the second. Hawryshko and Kennedy Frank earned the helpers on the play, but that was as close as the Lions would get the rest of the contest. Another power play goal from the Redhawks late in the third sealed their victory.
Miami outshot Lindenwood 32-29. Maia Busi stopped 28 of the 32 pucks she faced for the loss in goal. The Redhawks went 3/5 on the power play while holding the Lions scoreless on five man-advantage chances.
With the loss, Lindenwood dropped to 5-8-1 overall. The Lions will try to earn a split in the series when they host Miami again Friday afternoon. The puck drops at 2:45 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center. Lindenwood will also host Liberty in a Women’s Midwest College Hockey game Saturday evening at 7:50 p.m.
