Veteran Oregon transfer TE Cam McCormick commits to Miami
Miami will add a veteran body to their tight end room after Oregon transfer Cam McCormick announced his intentions to join the program on Sunday evening after spending the weekend in South Florida on an official visit.
The eighth-year, yes I said eighth-year, tight end has had one of the more interesting college careers that you will hear of. As a Class of 2016 prospect – the same class that produced Justin Herbert, Ed Oliver, Nick Bosa, Miles Sanders, A.J. Brown, and Brian Burns amongst other NFL stars.
After playing in 13 games as a true freshman, the 6-foot-5, 259-pounder missed four consecutive seasons to injury before making a return in 2022. This past fall, the Bend, Oregon native caught ten passes for 66 yards with three touchdowns in 13 games.
Miami has a room that lost its veteran leader in Will Mallory and who’s No. 2 tight end was lost midway through the season with a non-contact knee injury. Jaleel Skinner is a promising rising sophomore, and the Hurricanes also have some blocking threats in Kahlil Brantley and Dominic Mammarelli.
Adding an older guy to the room is a move that makes sense for the program that will add a couple more youngsters in Jackson Carver, who enrolled Sunday, and Riley Williams, who will also be at Miami for spring ball but is capping off his prep career at the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii this coming week.
McCormick, believe it or not, has actually been granted a ninth-year of eligibility, so does have two more years left to play at the college level. He becomes the seventh transfer to pick Miami this off-season, joining a transfer group that ranks No. 17 in the country. That should change when McCormick and Purdue defensive lineman Branson Deen are evaluated and ranked.
