Peek Inside the Miami Triplex of Late Celebrity Designer Lorraine Letendre

This triplex apartment on three high floors in the 50-story Ten Museum Park condo tower in downtown Miami was the longtime home of celebrity interior designer Lorraine Letendre.

“Lorraine was a force, the designer that everyone wanted to go to,” said listing agent Jill Hertzberg, of The Jills Zeder Group, which is affiliated with Coldwell Banker Realty. 

“She was always ahead,” Ms. Hertzberg said. “Her client base was the who’s who of people with impeccable taste and the financial ability to afford her.”

Letendre’s projects included fashion designer Calvin Klein’s Hamptons home and Hollywood director/producer Michael Bay’s Los Angeles residence, according to published reports. She died in April at age 72 of cancer, and last year donated $100,000 to set up the Lorraine Letendre Gynecologic Oncology Research Fund at the University of Miami.

Known as the Tower Suite, the triplex unit is on floors 42, 43 and 44 of the 200-unit condo tower on Biscayne Boulevard, which was completed in 2007.

“This was her own three-story home,” Ms. Hertzberg said. “She completely gutted everything that was there and rebuilt it from scratch,” working with the builder Jerry Rowland.

“Everything she used is organic—stone, marble, wood,” Ms. Hertzberg said.

Other architectural and design details include 20-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a dramatic white staircase, custom millwork, lime-based plaster walls and ceilings, smart-wired lighting and drapes, water filtration and sliding glass impact doors that open to the balcony. The home has unobstructed views of downtown Miami, Miami Beach and the port of Miami.

Letendre was a “single woman and her space reflected her,” Ms. Hertzberg said. “This was her live/work/play space.”

When you come into the 42nd floor, the main level, it’s one big open room with 20-foot ceilings, she said. To the left is a wall of wood, with the kitchen tucked behind it. A former en-suite bedroom on this level was used as an office space for Letendre’s staff.

There is a second kitchen on the 43rd floor, along with a large dining room, Ms. Hertzberg said. Letendre “took two bedrooms and made it into a primary suite for herself.”

The top floor offers a nook with a massage table and a dipping pool that overlooks the city.

The 3,986-square-foot condo has three bedrooms, three full bathrooms and one partial bathroom.

Amenities 

Building amenities include a 24-hour concierge, fitness and business centers, a wave pool, yoga and cycling spaces and a steam room with a spa. The unit comes with two garage spaces.

Neighborhood Notes 

The boutique condo complex is across the street from Museum Park, a 30-acre waterfront park that includes the Perez Art Museum Miami and the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science.

Letendre was “ahead of the curve, and she put herself right in the middle of that downtown area, which has gone through enormous changes in the last eight years,” Ms. Hertzberg said. “She bought there before everyone else.”

Eight years ago, “you worked downtown and then you left downtown,” she said. “That has all changed. Everything is right there now. It’s developing into a luxury area.”
