🌱 Argentina Fans Flood Miami After World Cup Win + Miami Settlement

  • Argentina fans flooded Miami’s streets after the country won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Sunday.
  • A former NBA player has been charged with battery in Miami.
  • Nearly 100,000 checks are being sent to Miami-Dade resident after a class action lawsuit over canker trees.

Here are the top stories in Miami today:

1. Former NBA player Amar’e Stoudemire has been charged with battery after he hit his daughter so hard she bled during an incident at his Miami home, according to multiple news reports. Police responded to the incident at about 10 p.m. Saturday to his Brickell Key condominium. (Miami Patch)

2. Nothbound Collins Avenue near 72nd Street was closed down on Sunday night as fans celebrated the win of Argentina in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Miami fans were seen holding Argentina flags inside a car and cheering. (WSVN)

3. A phased construction permit has been issued for Wynwood Diamedix, according to Miami Building Department records. The project will be known as PRH N. Miami. CFE is the architect in the project. (The Next Miami)

4. 97,000 checks have been mailed out to local residents for approximately $63 million after a class action lawsuits. To qualify for a payment, residents must have been the owner of a property at the time citrus canker trees were destroyed in Miami-Dade county, between Jan. 1, 2000 and the end of the program in January of 2006. 5. FIU Professor Frank O. Mora was recently confirmed by the Senate as permanent representative of the United States to the Organization of American States (OAS), a position that carries the rank of ambassador. “We are incredibly proud of Dr. Mora and know he will lead with distinction in this new role,’’ said FIU President Kenneth A.
